Graydon's attraction to animals came at a very young age. By the time he was
four, his room was filled with stuffed animals, toys, and books describing and
telling stories of creatures small and large. It was in kindergarten that I noticed
his attention to detail when he painted a shark equipped with remoras. After
beginning first grade, his love for animals became more evident in his art classes.
His art teacher was able to tap into his creativity and show him how to put it on
paper. After two years of group and private art lessons, Graydon had a sizeable
portfolio and it was during his first year of home schooling (third grade) that his
art was put to use. Our church was planning a mission trip to Costa Rica and
Graydon wanted the entire family to go. However, due to lack of finances we did
not have the funds for all three of us. So I decided to create a fund raiser for
Graydon in hopes that at least one parent would be able to go with him. I took a
few of Graydon's art pieces, scanned them to discs and put them on my
computer. From there I created note cards, gave Graydon a logo and started
selling note cards to everyone we knew. After four months time, Graydon not
only raised enough money to cover expenses for all of us but also to pay for an
extended home school trip. With the help of a local business (Rosebank Farms
Cafe) and a large donation, Graydon has decided to keep his business going and
expand his collection. Each work takes him anywhere from two to four hours to
complete but he sees this business as a way to help others. Of course it also
helps expand his LEGO and dinosaur collections. Thank you to all who have
enabled him to get this far and to those who have offered up prayers and
encouragement. The Lord has truly blessed us! I am seeing my child become a
fine young man through this process.
Blessings to all,
